Edward Hirsch has published ten books of poems, including Gabriel: A Poem, a book-length elegy for his son, and, most recently, Stranger by Night, and six books of prose about poetry, including 100 Poems to Break Your Heart, The Heart of American Poetry, and the national bestseller, How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love with Poetry. His numerous awards include a MacArthur Fellowship, the Rome Prize, and an Academy of Arts and Letters Award.  He is president of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and lives in Brooklyn.

Remembering Galway: Poets Reading the Poetry of Galway Kinnell

Galway Kinnell, (1927-2014), winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for his Selected Poems, and recipient of a MacArthur Genius Grant, was Vermont State Poet from 1989 to 1993. He published ten books of poetry, a novella, and several books of translations. For many years, he enriched the life of American culture through his poems, his teaching, his devotion to the tribe of poets, and his indelibly powerful public readings. At this event his poet friends, Michael Collier, Jody Gladding, Major Jackson, Mirah Kozodoy and Ellen Bryant Voigt will read their favorite poems from his work.

Matthew Olzmann is the author of Constellation Route, (Alice James Books) as well as two previous collections of poetry: Mezzanines and Contradictions in the Design. A recipient of fellowships from Kundiman, MacDowell, and the National Endowment for the Arts, Olzmann’s poems have appeared in the New York Times, Best American Poetry, The Pushcart Prizes, Kenyon Review, and elsewhere. He is an assistant professor at Dartmouth College and also teaches in the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.

Vievee Francis is the author of four books of poetry: including Forest Primeval (winner of the Hurston Wright Legacy Award and the Kingsley-Tufts Award) and her latest book of poetry, The Shared World (Northwestern University Press). She received the 2021 Aiken Taylor Award for Modern American Poetry. Her work has appeared in Poetry, Harvard Review, Best American Poetry, and spin.com and elsewhere. She is currently an Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing at Dartmouth College.
